Bar & Bat Mitzvah

The Shaar is here to guide you through every step of the process as your children become adult members of the Jewish community.

Bar Mitzvah

Bar Mitzvah boys may choose to chant the Torah portion or Haftarah on Shabbat morning, read Torah at a Shabbat afternoon Mincha service, or lead a weekday or Rosh Chodesh service.

All Bar Mitzvah boys are invited to receive an aliyah and give a Dvar Torah from the bimah.

Bat Mitzvah

Bat Mitzvah girls may choose to lead a Kabbalat Shabbat service on Friday night, lead a women’s service – including the Torah reading for a weekday Rosh Chodesh or Shabbat Mincha – and chant the Book of Esther on Purim or the Book of Ruth on Shavuot.

All Bat Mitzvah girls are invited to give a Dvar Torah from the bimah.

Preparations

Every boy or girl who celebrates this milestone with us will participate in:

  • The Bar or Bat Mitzvah group program with scheduled activities for the year before the Bar/Bat Mitzvah date
  • One-on-one tutoring sessions with an in-house private tutor to master the skills necessary for the ritual elements of the day

Celebrate Your Simcha With Us

The Shaar is an exceptional venue for any Bar or Bat Mitzvah celebration. Whether on Shabbat or during the week, elaborate festivities or small gatherings, we are proud to have a beautiful environment to suit any taste and budget. We are blessed with many Bar and Bat Mitzvah celebrations at the Shaar. As a result, it is recommended to consider booking a date three years prior to the celebration.
